I have gone in from clutch side, packed cases with shop towels to keep stuff out of motor and cut the plate off on the shift shaft and then pull the shaft out the shifter side. Backwards from normal. I finally got into some kind of gear, no clue which one, but it needed some foot pushing to even get it rolling.
